Common Issues in Parenting

Common Issues in ParentingIn my private practice, many of the most serious issues in parenting come up on parenting paper topics. It is also important to understand that many of these issues can also cause you a great deal of stress and anxiety. As a practicing family lawyer in a private practice, I am continually required to take on the bigger issues that come up in parenting. I often find that it is not the small problems that create the greatest issues in parenting. They are usually things that get magnified or amplified as the problems escalate. My clients often report that they struggle with a variety of very pressing issues in parenting. The most common issues I see are time management issues. This is particularly true for parents who spend more time with their children than they do with themselves. Although this sounds like a micro-problem, it is a macro-issue. If you do not have time to effectively manage your own time, then you cannot effectively manage your children's time ei ther.Another of the most common issues in parenting that arises in a private practice is that of child discipline. The underlying issue in this area often lies in the fact that the parent is not well-equipped to effectively discipline his or her children. They often feel that they need to 'spare' their children's punishment or the consequence, which the parent may not be able to provide or is unable to effectively administer.A problem that commonly arises when it comes to time management issues is that of the parent who feels they need to 'spend' all of their time with their children and have no time left over to get their work done. One way to work around this issue is to allocate a specific amount of time each day to accomplish tasks that are both mundane and completely necessary for your day. Another way to handle this issue is to have an allotted amount of time in the evening or night to complete your work.My third biggest issue in parenting comes from my experience as a former family law attorney. There is a time and a place for everything. This does not apply to parenting or any other aspect of your life. The trick is to find the appropriate time for the appropriate task. One last item that often crops up issues with drug and alcohol use. Often times children do not understand the impact of drugs and alcohol on their bodies. Parents are often ill-equipped to handle these issues as well as the emotional effects that they can cause. As you can see, all of these are some of the most common issues in parenting. It is imperative that when it comes to your children, you address each of these situations as they arise. Doing so will increase your chances of minimizing problems and ultimately, preventing them from arising in the first place.
